Modelling vocabolary and information
Die cast model
Often the hardening occur with an automatic chemical reaction between the ingredients. In other instances the hardening occur by oxydation of ingredients in the mass caused by air exposure. Warming or baking the mass in the form to start chemical reactions that cause hardening is also a common way. Some types of mass will harden by exposure to light of specific wavelngths. Some masses will harden when the water is dried out.
Cardboard modelling or engineering - This is a modelling process where paper cards are cut and glued together. The techiques has gained new popularity because designs with colors and patterns can now be downloaded from databases in the intrenet and printed onto the card before the pieces are cut and assambled.
Scale model
- A scale model is a model of anything (car, aircraft, boat, building, animal, landscape, masjine, etc) that have the same proportions as the real life thing, but have every size scled down or up with some factor. Usually it is much smaller that the real life thing.Lego - Lego is a patented type of building kits consisting of bricks that can be fixed together with a simple and pure mechanical locking mechanism. The upper bart of the bricks has a number of knobs and the under-part is hollow. The bricks are smacked together by pushing the knobs at the upper part of one brick up into the under-side of another so that the knobs press outwards at the walls inside the other brick. There are however many similar systems on the marked that are not covered by the lego patent. Some types of lego-bricks also have knobs in the interior, so that the interior knobs also press against the upper knobs of the other brick.
Modelling clay - These are malleable materials of various viscosity. Some of these will harden through the contact with air or by warming and some will remaind malleable. Those remaining malleable after being used are susceptibole to temperature or mechanical impacts. Modelling clay are based on mineral clay, mineral salts, paper mass, oil, vaxes and or water.
Plasticin - This is a patented modelling clay with unknown exact composition, but key ingredients are calcium salts and petroleum gelly. It is non-hardening.
Plastilin, plastetline, plastilina, etc - These are trademark names for various non-hardening modelling clays baced on oily media.
