Information about remote controle cars
Here are some historical information about RC cars and information about RC cars driven by different motor technologies so that you can choose the right kind of car for your purposes.
Origins of the
Remote Control Car
By Riz S Davis
The beginnings of the remote control car can be traced back to the 1940s, when small, nitromethane-powered engines first entered the market. At the time, the only way to control an engine-powered model car was with a tether. While these cars were fast, they merely ran in a circle from the tether. In the late 1960s, the first miniaturized solid state radio control systems were introduced, allowing model cars to have servo-controlled steering, throttle, and brake functionality that could be remotely controlled from a transmitter unit.
Several early commercially viable remote control cars became available by 1966, produced by El-Gi (Elettronica Giocattoli), a company from Reggio Emilia, Italy. Their first remote control car model was a 1:12 Ferrari 250LM. This was followed by their 1:10 Ferrari P4 model, which was first shown at the Milan Toy Fair in early 1968. Between the mid to late 1960s, a British company called Mardave also began to produce commercially viable remote control cars. Their first products were nitro- or gas-powered cars which were sold in the early 1970s.
During that period, several commercial products were manufactured by small firms in the United States. Most of these companies started out as slot car companies, then moved into the remote control car field, which was becoming more popular. Early kits were 1/8 scale nitro-powered aluminum flat pan cars powered by a .21 or smaller engine, with the bodies made of polycarbonate.
In 1976, the Japanese firm Tamiya released a series of highly detailed but mechanically simple electric on-road car models. Although more expensive, these kits and radio systems sold quickly. Soon, Tamiya began to produce more purpose-built remote-controlled model cars, and were the first to release off-road buggies with real suspension systems. This allowed remote control cars to be driven virtually anywhere, not just on bitumen and smooth surfaces. It was this development toward the off-road class that brought about much of the hobby's popularity

Remote Control Petrol Cars
By Rob David Stone
There have been many adverts on TV for remote control petrol cars, where you see a car dashing about with a big smile on the boys face and fantastic stunts by the car itself. What people do not realise is there is a lot more to a remote control car than just making it dash about either performing stunts or banging into objects. You will find that petrol cars (nitro cars) are faster and take more skill to control than electric cars.
As well as cars, you can also get trucks, planes, helicopters, tanks and general remote control toys.
Where these cars come into their own as a hobby is buying them and looking into how they work, servicing them or even fixing them or actually building them from scratch. Go into any major newsagents and you will find magazines dedicated to radio control cars, their design, build and tips on how to get more out of their performance as well as major meets where people can race their cars in races.
There are 1000’s of spares you can by online for your car when you decide to take your hobby to the level of servicing and fixing your own nitro car. Many forums can be found for when you do get stuck, as the learning curve is pretty steep but incredibly fun. They can run on grass, concrete and some can move over obstacles you put in their way such as the Monster Truck variations.
In the UK we refer to these cars as radio control petrol cars, but in the United States and Canada they call them Gas powered cars. These cars are superior in most ways to electric cars in that the designs are more robust but the petrol gives them more power, torque and overall fun value.
Each time the car is used, it needs the petrol tank to be filled so you can be up and running within a minute or two, but with an electric car you need to charge it for several hours before first use. Please bear in mind the safety issues with petrol regarding the petrol can spilling over, petrol spilling itself onto areas where you will be walking and take children into consideration.
Whichever you goto buy when looking at remote control petrol cars or an electric car, make sure you read up on the specifications first and not just by what it looks like. http://petrol-remote-control-cars.co.uk/remote-control-petrol-cars/

Electric RC Cars - 3 Great Advantages
By Abhishek Agarwal
Electric Radio controlled cars are among the most popular variety of RC cars in use nowadays. Most beginners also use electric RC cars for their first RC car kit. Operating an electric RC car is quite simple enough even for children. Thus, it is an ideal option for a beginner RC car enthusiast.
The many advantages of electric remote controlled cars make them the most appealing to everyone. These were initially manufactured as toys and went on to be accepted as adult hobby items. The following are some of the advantages of electric remote controlled cars:
1. Easy to use: As mentioned earlier, electric RC cars are simple to operate. Therefore, many parents buy these cars for their children as toys they can play with. There are no complicated procedures to ensure correct operation. The operation of Nitro RC cars is quite complicated. However, in case of Electric RC cars, all you need to do is install the batteries and your car is ready to go. This is very advantageous to the beginners as they are purchasing the very first car kit. Even if very few beginners go on to become serious hobbyists, the electric RC car introduces them to a world of fun racing RC cars.
2. Cheap: The reason for the popularity of electric remote controlled cars is that they are cheap to procure. They are generally toys that are pre-assembled or can be purchased as kits. They cost much less than Nitro RC cars. Economically speaking, these cars provide an affordable option to gas -powered cars.
Contrary to the common belief, gas powered cars do not run on gasoline. Fuel in nitro RC cars is a mixture of nitro methane and castor oil, so it needs to be bought at specialty shops. In case of electric RC cars, the only requirement of fuel is in the form of batteries. Apart from charging the batteries, there is no additional expense on fuel purchase.
3. Indoor Use: Another advantage of the electric RC car is that it can be safely used indoors. The unfavorable outdoor conditions do not matter to a RC car hobbyist, if he owns an electric RC car. There are two factors that differentiate between Electric remote control cars and Nitro RC cars and these are:
- Noise: The electric RC cars are ideal for use indoors as they run silently and do not make much noise. Nitro engines on the other hand use combustion and can be very noisy, therefore cannot be used indoors. If run indoors, the sound will reverberate off the walls in the enclosed space.
- Smoke: Electricity is a clean energy. Hence, there are no unwanted by-products of running the electric RC car. Nevertheless, due to limited charge these cannot be used for a long time and frequently need recharging. Comparatively, nitro engines run for a longer period of time. Nitro Remote Control Cars
By Rob D Stone
Be a kid again with Remote Control Cars
What was once designed for kids is now the rave for adults as well. There is something about the nitro remote control cars that has every man and some women longing to own one. Thanks to the high demand, more are being produced and offered to people from all around the world to provide hours of enjoyment. You have several choices of models to choose from including, remote cars, buggies, helicopters and more. Each model is designed to have a great style and design to handle the weather and all types of terrain.
The nitro cars are not the ordinary old fashioned style remote control cars. These cars run off of nitro fuel. The nitro allows the cars to go at a fast speed. Once you have added the nitro to your nitro RC you will need to prime the engine with the fuel. You will then need to attach a glow start to the glow plug. If you're RC does not come with a glow start you will need to purchase it separately. Pull the recoil starter using quick pull backs until it starts. Be careful not to over pull the recoil all the way to avoid damaging the spring. The engine should start when done properly. Occasionally you may need to retry it until it takes off. You also may need to adjust the fuel to air mixture once you have it running. You will know by the sound that it makes when it is not running properly.
The nitro remote control cars are more than just your average remote control cars because of the comparison in a real motor and the real motor functions. Because they are different people need to keep in mind that there is maintenance that needs to be performed on the nitro cars regularly. This will only increase your speed and the ability to handle rough terrain.
These cars can reach speeds of more than 70mph. They can climb hills and go through rough terrain while you stand still and watch. If you have never seen one you may want to check out some video online that shows the nitro cars in action. Watching how fast these go before you purchase them is an excellent idea. Pay close attention to the model that is being demonstrated in the video so you will know which ones you need to look for.
You can purchase different bodies for your nitro cars. Your nitro can look like a race car or a monster truck. You can set up obstacles for your nitro to maneuver around. Get friends together and create an obstacle that will challenge all your vehicles.
If you want to purchase the nitro fuel, you can find it in almost all hobby shops around your area. Nitro cannot be delivered to your home so make sure that you can have easy access to it so you can purchase it when needed. If you have a crash you can find replacement parts online where you purchase your remote control cars.
